Correspondent | July 29, 2011 The Contra Costa JCC in Walnut Creek plans to open its doors starting Aug. 23 for a new after school program for children. The K-5 program will run during the fall, spring and winter school sessions, and there will also be a program offered during spring break. Located on the JCC campus, the program will include transportation from local elementary schools and daily care until 6 p.m. “We are so excited to be able to offer a new place for children to learn, grow and create new friendships,” said Jamie Hyams, the JCC’s executive director. Sports, arts and crafts, games and homework tutoring are among the program’s core offerings. For an extra cost, enrichment classes such as chess, Spanish and dance will be available. Jewish culture will be celebrated with holiday observations and weekly Shabbat activities. The program, run in partnership with California Adventure Camps, is open to the public. Costs range from $100 to $210 per week, depending on grade level and number of days per week (there will be three- and five-day options). The program will be held at the Contra Costa JCC, 2071 Tice Valley Blvd., Walnut Creek. For more information contact Hyams at (925) 407-0422 or [email protected], or visit www.ccjcc.org. J.
