Two concerts of Jewish music will take place at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley this month.
The first will feature the pioneering klezmer band the Klezmatics on Thursday, Dec. 15. The Grammy-winning New York band is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a live two-CD set. Tickets are $26.50.
On Dec. 17, the coffeehouse will host the third annual “Pomegranates & Figs: A Feast of Jewish Music,” featuring Teslim, Eliyahu and the Qadim Ensemble, Veretski Pass and the Oakland Folkharmonic. Tickets are $22.50.
Teslim includes violinist Kaila Flexer, who is also organizer of the event. Veretski Pass is a klezmer trio, while Eliyahu and the Qadim Ensemble play music from the Near East. Flexer returns to the stage with her new string ensemble, the Oakland Folkharmonic, which features five women fiddlers. “Juggling Diva” Sara Felder will provide between-acts entertainment.
