Concerning the heightening security in the Golan, I was reminded of my recent trip there this summer on the border of Lebanon where there was only a barbed-wire fence between a kibbutz and a city flying two Hezbollah flags. It always amazes me that our own borders in the U.S. are so much more difficult to navigate and congested than Israel’s, and yet Eretz Yisrael defends herself with such a simple mechanism.

The almost peaceful message that is evoked by the country when a simple “cattle fence” is all that is used for protection impresses me. I am sad to hear that in this escalating political situation, more drastic measures have to be employed, but it is very understandable concerning the amount of enmity Israel already has to handle.
