Correspondent | September 20, 2013 A simcha fair featuring more than a dozen local vendors as well as nonprofits will be held Oct. 20 at Beth Chaim Congregation in Danville. Titled “Raising the Bar on Your Mitzvah,” the event promises to bring together “a variety of local, green, socially just and responsible vendors and nonprofits for your upcoming parties. Learn how to integrate Jewish values while planning your simcha,” according to the Simcha Sisters, a full-service company specializing in lifecycle events that is co-hosting the fair with Beth Chaim Congregation. The fair strives to feature vendors who follow “ethically guided business practices” regarding treatment of workers, ecological sustainability, and community awareness and involvement. Nonprofits such as Bend the Arc, a national Jewish social justice organization; the East Bay-based Fair Trade Judaica and others also will participate, and will offer suggestions for students’ b’nai mitzvah projects.
