A memorial to mark the shloshim of Tamar Bittelman will be held next week. The former Oakland Hebrew Day School teacher died Jan. 25 in Israel. A shloshim ends the traditional 30-day mourning period.

A native of San Mateo, Bittelman co-founded the Berkeley Torah center Beit Midrash Ohr HaChaim. She also served as a kindergarten teacher at OHDS for 14 years. Two years ago, she and her husband, Noach Bittelman, moved to Israel.

The memorial event will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Beth Jacob Congregation, 3778 Park Blvd., Oakland. Attendees are asked to arrive by 5:15. Light refreshments will be served.
