IDF soldiers bringing stories to Bay Area

StandWithUs, a pro-Israel organization, has announced that its sixth annual national “Israel Soldiers’ Stories” tour is coming to the Bay Area.

Thirteen former soldiers are being dispersed to different regions of the country to “put a human face” on the Israel Defense Forces, according to StandWithUs. They will appear at schools, churches, colleges, synagogues and other venues.

The soldiers speaking in the Bay Area from March 30 through April 4 will be Elad and Lital (StandWithUs uses first names only). Elad, who lived in Sunnyvale from ages 6 to 10 when his father worked in Silicon Valley, served in the West Bank and Gaza. Lital was a combat soldier who served at some West Bank checkpoints.

One of their talks will be at the S.F.-based Jewish Community Federation building from 9 to 10 a.m. on April 2. The event is free, but people are asked to RSVP to Dani Mahrer at [email protected]

Other talks on the schedule include: 4 p.m. March 30 at Congregation B’nai Shalom in Walnut Creek ($10); 7 p.m. March 31 at Temple Beth El in Aptos (free); and 6:30 p.m. April 2 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in San Jose, hosted by Hillel of Silicon Valley (free).
