Eva B. Noodlman

Age 100, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on July 8, 1913 in San Francisco, California. She married Bernard Noodlman on June 15, 1933 and was married for 55 years when he died on June 30, 1988. She moved to Arizona in 1989 and lived in Scottsdale and Phoenix.

She is survived by two daughters, Dee Epstein (Jay) and Barbara Paller, four grandsons, Russell (Leonor), Randal (Dena), Rodd (Dena) and Adam (Heide), and eight great-grandchildren. Interment was at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma. Donations in her honor may be made to the Jewish Community of Sedona and the Verde Valley, P.O. Box 10242, Sedona, AZ 86339. Lillian Pearlman

1920–2014

Lillian Pearlman, daughter of the late Mollie (Malka) Fromson and Harry Wallach of St. Louis, Mo., died peacefully at her home on March 21, 2014 in Novato, Calif. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 72 years, Joseph, her daughter Andrea Tobor and grandchildren Jordan and Morgan Tobor.

A memorial service was held at Home of Peace Cemetery in Colma, followed by shiva at both Lillian’s and her daughter’s homes.

Lillian was born on May 3, 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri to Harry and Malka Wallach. One of six children, she and her siblings survived the Great Depression to go on to prosper in a new world.

In 1941, Lillian married the love of her life, Joe Pearlman. Shortly thereafter, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army and was sent to the Pacific theater during World War II. During Joe’s three-year absence, Lillian “did her part” for the war effort, working at several USOs and testing machine guns and ammunition … a true Rosie the riveter, if only at 90 pounds.

In addition to raising their two children, Lillian worked at the Hebrew Theological College, Fasman Yeshiva in Skokie, Ill. She was a lifelong member of City of Hope and Hadassah and became a bat mitzvah in Israel at 72 years of age.

Her interests included family, needlework, cooking and entertaining. She was a duplicate bridge master for most of her adult life. Lillian devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members, including her own mother until she passed away at the age of 90.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Joe Pearlman, her daughter Andrea Tobor and her two children Jordan and Morgan Tobor, and her son Murray Pearlman.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Shirley Kash (Jerome) and Sarah Berg (Ed) and brothers Sam (Anita), Lou (Mollie) and Richard Wallach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Lillian’s honor to Hospice by the Bay in Larkspur, California.

Mort Ross

Passed away peacefully on March 19 after suffering a stroke two months earlier. He recently turned 91, spending most of his life in San Francisco, a city that he loved.

From very humble beginnings in Chicago, Mort wore a number of hats in his life, including serving in the Navy during World War II, a union organizer for the ILGWU, businessman, sculptor, supporter of Jewish causes, and the patriarch of his family.

Arriving in San Francisco in 1951, he embraced the cosmopolitan arts and cultural life that the city offered. Four years later he married Sylvia, who was also from Chicago. They had three children, Lee (Shirley), Alan (Pearl) and Merl (Dave), and subsequently four grandchildren. For both Mort and Sylvia, family time was their greatest joy.

Mort will be remembered for his views on art, his humanistic Jewish values, and his commitment to helping those who struggled in a variety of ways. Contributions to the Hebrew Free Loan Association.
