Robert Dorin, M.D.

Passed away peacefully in his home in Redwood City on Monday, May 5. Robert was born in Chicago in 1918, the oldest of five sons born to immigrant, orphaned parents. Robert enjoyed electronics and was a ham radio operator. He attended University of Chicago, where he met and later married his beloved wife of 69 years, Shirley (Blumenthal) Dorin.

Robert received a master’s degree in Biochemistry from U. of Illinois in 1942. He served stateside during World War II and was an officer in the U.S. Army. He obtained his M.D. at U. of Illinois, and in 1952 moved west to settle and open a general medicine practice in Redwood City. He retired from private practice in 1970 to travel and explore the world with his wife, then resumed his employment as a physician at the Menlo Park VA for another 24 years.

Robert is survived by his wife (Shirley), brother (Harold), sons (Fred and Rick), grandchildren (Randy, Paul, Faie, Rachel and Philip Dorin and Michelle Silberman) and a great-grandson (Jason Silberman).

Services for Dr. Dorin were held on Thursday, May 8 at Temple Beth Jacob, 1550 Alameda de las Pulgas, Redwood City, CA. Shiva service held at the Dorin family home.

Jean Diana Minkin

In San Francisco on May 5, 2014. Mother of Deberah Minkin and the late Stephen Minkin; grandmother of four; sister of Max Kaplan and Ruth Kapkin. Funeral services were held at Hills of Eternity Memorial Park, Colma, under the direction of Sinai Memorial Chapel.
