The social action committee of Congregation Shomrei Torah in Santa Rosa will host a free June 29 program about domestic violence.

“Triumph Over Domestic Violence” will feature guest speaker Joshua Safran, an East Bay Orthodox attorney who wrote a book about his experiences as the child of a mother who was a victim of domestic violence. He will read from his memoir “Free Spirit: Growing up on the Road and Off the Grid.”

Safran, an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and the wrongfully imprisoned, also will sit on a panel that includes four Sonoma County experts on the subject, including a sergeant from the sheriff department’s domestic violence/sexual assault unit, a family justice center director and a representative from the district attorney’s office who specializes in victims’ services.

The event is scheduled from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 29 at Shomrei Torah, 2600 Bennett Valley Road, Santa Rosa. For more information, call (707) 495-0489.
