Five savory and sweet events coming to JCCSF

The JCC of San Francisco recently announced its 2014-15 arts and ideas schedule, and it includes five food events before the end of the year.

Tickets for the full “Focus on Food” series will go on sale starting Monday, July 28, with individual ticket sales starting Aug. 18.

The marquee event is an Oct. 24 appearance by celebrity chef Yotam Ottolenghi. The Israeli-born London restaurateur won a legion of fans with “Jerusalem,” the cookbook he wrote with Sami Tamimi, and he is now working on his fourth book, “Plenty More.” Tickets are $30-$40.

On Sept. 8, James Beard award winner Rowan Jacobsen, author of “Apples of Uncommon Character,” will talk about apples in all their glory, with tastings available in the atrium. Tickets are $15.

On Nov. 3, Joy the Baker blogger Joy Wilson, author of “Homemade Decadence,
” will demonstrate baking techniques and offer tastings. Tickets are $25.

On Nov. 5, local chef Daniel Patterson, of Coi and Alta CA in San Francisco, will speak with world-renowned perfumer Maudy Aftel about the connection between appetites and our sense of smell. Tickets are $15.

On Nov. 18, a baking “dream team” is slated to appear: Rose Levy Beranbaum (“The Cake Bible”), Alice Medrich (founder of Berkeley’s Cocolat) and pastry chef Emily Luchetti. Combined they have written more than 25 baking and dessert books. Tickets are $25-$35.
