October is going to be a big month for Lehrhaus Judaica, highlighted by the Berkeley-based learning institution’s 40th anniversary gala on Oct. 26 aboard the Hornblower vessel San Francisco Belle. The evening on the bay will include dining, cocktails and dancing, and founding director Fred Rosenbaum will be honored. Individual tickets start at $295, and rooms at the Hyatt Regency near the boarding and disembarkation spot are available for an additional charge. For more information, visit www.lehrhaus.org or call (510) 845-6420 ext. 10. Also this month, Lehrhaus is launching classes on anti-Semitism, starting Oct. 21 in Berkeley and Oct. 23 at the JCC of San Francisco. Titled “Anti-Semitism: The Dynamics and History of the Longest Hatred,” the class is also available online for those who register. Two other offerings starting this month include year four of the Bay Area Community Talmud Circles (in 12 Bay Area locations) and an expansion of that popular program titled “Lehrhaus Philosophy Circle: The Eight Chapters” (six locations). For more information on the above offerings and other classes, visit http://catalog.lehrhaus.org or call (510) 845-6420. Founded in 1974, Lehrhaus Judaica offers lectures, conferences, courses and art exhibits, as well as overseas study tours, weekend learning retreats, digital courses and webinars. It took its name (meaning “house of learning”) from a celebrated school for Jewish studies that existed in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1920 until it was shut down by the Nazis. J.
