This is the second year Sha’ar Zahav has held an event to bless pets. At last year’s event in Dolores Park — timed with the reading of the Noah’s Ark Torah portion — people brought goats, a rabbit and even a python. This year, Sha’ar Zahav is joining with the SPCA for a “pan-denominational” animal blessing on Sat., Nov. 1 at 1:30 p.m. at 201 Alabama St., where all faiths will be welcome. Adoptions for adult animals will be free from Oct. 30 through Nov. 2. The SPCA regularly partners with different faith groups to offer animal blessings. Earlier this month, a blessing and adoption event was held at San Francisco’s St. Francis Lutheran Church. Saint Francis of Assisi is known as the patron saint of animals. “The importance of these creatures in our lives just can’t be over-emphasized,” said Wendy Brummer, a Sha’ar Zahav member who is helping to organize the event.
