Scholars from Jewish, Muslim and Christian backgrounds will speak about the State of Israel in a series of multifaith dialogues sponsored by the JCC of San Francisco and the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America.
“Talking About Israel: Jews & Muslims” will kick off the series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 in the JCCSF’s Kanbar Hall.
Rabbi Donniel Hartman, president of the Shalom Hartman Institute of Jerusalem, and Imam Abdullah Antepli, a native of Turkey and Duke University’s chief representative of Muslim affairs, will speak about the history of Jewish-Muslim relations in the Middle East and possibilities for mutual understanding.
Antepli is a co-founder of SHI’s Muslim Leadership Initiative, which aims to help Muslim leaders in North America understand Judaism and Israel from the perspective of the Jewish people.
The second event in the series will be a Dec. 10 conversation between the Rev. Judy Yates Siker, a professor of New Testament and Christian origins at the San Francisco Theological Seminary, and Yehuda Kurtzer, Shalom Hartman Institute of North America president. The series will conclude on Feb. 25.
Tickets for each dialogue are $15. Fore more information, visit www.jccsf.org/arts or call (415) 292-1233.
