A new initiative funded largely by the S.F.-based Jim Joseph Foundation will aim to connect young professionals who are Camp Ramah and Young Judaea alumni to Jewish learning opportunities and other Jewish community engagement.
The Ramah Camping Movement and Young Judaea recently announced the formation of the Learning Hub project, which will be in four cities, including San Francisco. The grant from Jim Joseph is $250,000 over two years; other learning hubs will be in Chicago, Miami and Washington, D.C.
“We anticipate that these peer networks, based upon strong camp connections but open to all, will create other opportunities for social and Jewish engagement far beyond monthly learning sessions,” said Rabbi Mitchell Cohen, director of the National Ramah Commission.
Ramah is a network of Jewish summer camps affiliated with the Conservative movement. Young Judaea was founded in 1909 as America’s first Zionist youth movement. The Learning Hub marks the first time these two entities have teamed up on a program.
