More than 100 people gathered in Palo Alto on Nov. 16 to celebrate the official opening of Meira Academy’s big, new space on the campus of the Oshman Family Jewish Commun-ity Center.
When Northern California’s only all-girls Orthodox Jewish high school opened in 2011, it had just six students (all freshmen) and one room on the JCC campus. Now the school has moved into a dedicated building of approximately 3,900 square feet, which includes four classrooms, a faculty lounge, two offices and a reception area (plus restrooms). School officials hope to add a library in the future.
This year, for the first time, Meira has all four high school grades (freshman through senior) and more than 20 students, most from Orthodox homes. In September, the school, which welcomes girls from a variety of backgrounds, received accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
