Hazon has begun accepting registration for its sixth annual bike ride through bucolic Sonoma County and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The 2015 California Ride and Retreat — which combines nature, biking, Shabbat, healthy food and community — is scheduled for May 7-10. Last year, more than 115 people, including 70 riders, took part.
Based at Walker Creek Ranch in Petaluma, the event includes Jewish learning and community-building in addition to bike rides; options include 40-, 60- or 80-mile loop rides on Friday, and/or 40- and 60-mile routes on Sunday into San Francisco.
Through sponsorships, riders raise money for local Hazon programming that includes food justice work, educational initiatives and sustainable food resources for Jewish institutions. Last year’s event raised more than $82,000.
Costs vary based on levels of participation and accommodations. For more information, visit www.hazon.org/bike-rides/california-ride or call (415) 397-7020.
