Cantor Rita Glassman will mark the release of her new album, “A World of Peace in Song and Prayer,” with a concert on Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco. Glassman will sing songs from the album, accompanied by her band.
Glassman, the longtime cantor at San Francisco’s Congregation Sherith Israel, said she recorded the album to “bring the message of the possibilities for peace in our world to all ages, people of faith, a Jewish and Interfaith population.”
The 14 tracks, sung in English and Hebrew, include original songs by Glassman, such as “Song for Peace,” based on the Jewish prayer Oseh Shalom. It also features songs by Debbie Friedman, Rabbi Menachem Creditor (of Berkeley’s Congregation Netivot Shalom), and pop tunes by Lennon/McCartney, Carly Simon, and others. Musician and co-producer Fred Ross-Perry accompanies Glassman on instruments and backing vocals.
The concert takes place at 4 p.m. Jan. 18 at the JCCSF, 3200 California St., San Francisco. Tickets are $18-$20. For further information, call (415) 292-1233. To purchase the CD, visit www.ritaglassman.com.
