The legacy of Regina Jonas
In 1935, Regina Jonas became the first woman to be ordained a rabbi. A leading rabbinical figure in the Berlin Jewish community, she was deported to Theresienstadt, where she continued her work as a spiritual counselor. Despite her accomplishments, Jonas’ legacy was buried for decades after her death in Auschwitz in 1944. Gail Reimer of the Jewish Women’s Archive, who took part in a recent European tour to honor Jonas, will discuss the trip in a Jewish Community Endowment Fund lecture.
6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at Hillel at Stanford, 565 Mayfield Ave., Stanford. Free. http://jewishstudies.stanford.edu
