On Feb. 13, the Oakland Hebrew Day School community marked the first yarzheit of Tamar Bittelman, a beloved kindergarten teacher, by gathering at a small garden planted in her honor at the school. The garden was landscaped around a palm tree planted last year just after Bittelman’s untimely death. “Students now enjoy sitting in the peace and tranquility of Tamar’s garden during recess,” a school spokesperson said, “remembering who she was and appreciating the beauty she brought to all of us.”
