A Southern California elder abuse law firm has filed a class action suit against a major Jewish-owned skilled nursing facility operation.

Garcia, Artigliere & Medby of Long Beach filed the suit against Shlomo Rechnitz, owner of Brius Management and Brius LLC, which owns, controls and operates 57 skilled-nursing facilities in California.

The suit alleges that the facilities intentionally and repeatedly abused patients and violated their rights for personal financial gain. The class action suit seeks monetary damages, along with other rectification of the alleged misdeeds.

The public relations counsel for Brius responded, writing, “This lawsuit is filled with baseless and untrue allegations. It is
notable that it makes no allegations of harm to or abuse of any of our
patients….
The allegations in the lawsuit focus on staffing levels at our facilities.
The fact is staffing levels at all of our facilities meet and even exceed
the staffing levels required by the State of California…
Brius facilities are operated at the highest standards and, in fact, have
been appointed as one of the only State Certified Temporary Managers to take
control of troubled nursing facilities.”

Rechnitz also runs the Shlomo & Tamar Rechnitz Charitable Foundation, and is a major supporter of the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem and Chabad West Coast. — j. staff
