Topics such as promoting healthy diets, supporting organic farms and reducing hunger all will be part of a three-hour event at the JCC of San Francisco to celebrate Food Day on Oct. 24.

The JCCSF is inviting the public to join in the nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainable food.

Highlights will include a rooftop barbecue, with all ingredients coming from within a 50-mile radius of the JCCSF, and a group “Apple Crunch” at 10:30 a.m. — when dozens of participants will bite into locally sourced apples at the same time. Also, the JCCSF’s fitness center staff will be giving exercise demonstrations.

In conjunction with the event, the JCCSF also is hosting classes titled “Fall Harvest Desserts” on Sunday, Oct. 19 and “Reinventing Leftovers” on Monday, Oct. 20.
