A public memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 22 for Jewish community leader and philanthropist Helen Diller.

Helen Diller

Diller, who was 85 when she died on Jan. 9 in Woodside, was known in the Bay Area Jewish community for programs supported by the Helen Diller Family Foundation, including the Diller Teen Fellows; the Helen Diller Family Awards for Excellence in Jewish Education; an endowed Jewish studies program at U.C. Santa Cruz; and an endowment for a visiting Israeli scholar at U.C. Berkeley.

The family foundation is also a major donor to the arts, including the Fine Arts Museums and the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco; and to medical research, including $35 million for a cancer center at UCSF.

The memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. at Congregation Emanu-El, 2 Lake St., S.F., followed by a reception.

In lieu of donations or flowers, the family appreciates kind thoughts as the most meaningful tribute to her life.
