A course on spirituality and music is coming to the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay. Local composer Aaron Blumenfeld will teach the 10-week class, which meets Wednesdays starting Jan. 13.
Co-sponsored by the Jewish Music Festival, the course examines the link between spirituality and music, with a focus on Chassidic music. Blumenfeld said students “will experiment with the concept of music as an independent form of meditation, and just as the Chassidic masters did, we will also create niggunim, songs created through improvisation.”
The class meets at the Jewish Community Center of the East Bay, 1414 Walnut St., Berkeley. Fee is $50 for 10 classes. For further information, call (510) 848-0170 or go to Blumenfeld’s Web site, www.aarons-world.com.
