Rich, Integrated Curriculum

Our program offers a rich, integrated and challenging curriculum combining general and Judaic studies with an emphasis on social and emotional development. Our coursework in English, math, science, social studies, Hebrew and visual and performing arts, technology, athletics and outdoor education prepares students well for challenging academic environments and life in general.

Our teachers on both campuses collaborate to create a varied learning environment through lively debate, creative projects and hands-on experiences.

Students also participate in activities beyond the core curriculum that strengthen personal, family and community relationships. Our recent, all-school trip to celebrate Sukkot in Yosemite National Park, for example, brought families and staff from both campuses together to celebrate the holiday within majestic natural beauty and forged a lifetime of friendships and connections among our students.

Two Outstanding Facilities

Our two facilities provide dynamic and engaging classroom environments to our nearly 600 students across both campuses. Each campus provides state-of-the arts libraries, computer and science labs, visual and performing arts learning and diverse athletics opportunities.

Our kindergarten classrooms are an ideal setting for early learners and were designed with our teacher’s significant input. In Marin, these classrooms open up to a large, sunny field, garden and play area. In San Francisco, they lead directly to outdoor spaces that include a gardening area and a challenging but age-appropriate playground.

As our students grow beyond kindergarten, their classroom space evolves with them. Our newly remodeled middle school building in San Francisco includes a brand new, state-of-the-art science center, art studio and renovated middle school classrooms, lockers and gymnasium.

Our Marin campus enjoys the benefits of association with the adjacent Osher Marin JCC facility, which offers excellent performing arts, presentation and athletics spaces through its 500-seat Hoytt Theater, adjacent library, fitness center and swimming pools.

Engaged, Ethically

Responsible Students

Our school is deeply committed to the whole growth and development of our students, and we consistently provide teaching opportunities that build character, decision-making skills and integrity.

Our curriculum integrates a dynamic, hands-on service learning program that allows students to connect Jewish values with active service in the community as part of their daily learning. From creating environmentally responsible lunchtime waste disposal policies to tutoring students at other local schools, BHDS students put our core values into action as part of their school day, every day.

Love of Learning

and Key Skills

We prepare our students to thrive with a lifelong love of learning and strong sense of self. BHDS students learn how to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, are skilled at information gathering and processing, and approach their studies with an inquisitive, risk-taking spirit that is encouraged and nurtured by their teachers.

Physical Well-Being

and Athletics

Our wellness program touches every aspect of our student’s daily lives —from well-timed recess periods to healthy snacks at school events. We play sports including soccer, volleyball, baseball and basketball, and participate in local league games and tournaments. On our Marin campus, students swim in the fall and spring as part of their regular physical education program.

A Diverse, Caring

Jewish Community

As one of the most diverse Jewish day schools in the United States, we offer an educational environment that welcomes children from the many backgrounds of the San Francisco Bay Area Jewish community. We encourage the religious search for meaning through dialogue, inquiry and personal exploration. Our community is inclusive and supportive, and we work together to help our children achieve their full potential while striving to make the world a better place.

J. covers our community better than any other source and provides news you can't find elsewhere. Support local Jewish journalism and give to J. today. Your donation will help J. survive and thrive!
